There is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). By participating in Xtreme Hike, I am helping to end this genetic disease for thousands of people impacted by CF like my friend, Michaelle "Meesh". Cystic Fibrosis affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. The symptoms can vary from person to person, and as people with CF live longer than ever before, their disease can become more complicated, leading to serious health issues. Meesh had a double lung transplant five years ago but has recently battled cancer in different parts of her body, a side effect from her lung transplant medications. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made extraordinary progress -- including fostering the development of more than a dozen CF treatments -- but these treatments are not a cure and not everyone can benefit from them. We must keep going. Your support makes a difference. Today, Meesh is recovering from several surgeries, most recently a removal of her ileostomy bag (lovingly called her "poop bag"). When she is able, she takes care of her many animals on her rural farm in Washington with her husband and is the very best Auntie to her nieces and nephews. She is living her best life. Please consider donating or joining me on one of my training hikes this summer/fall to bring awareness to Meesh's empowered story and help make CF stand for Cure Found.
